Public Allies is a national AmeriCorps program that identifies talented young
adults from diverse backgrounds to advance their leadership through a ten month apprenticeship program in nonprofit organizations,
leadership trainings, and team service projects. One of the important aspects
of the Public Allies program is to be involved the Team Service Project within a community in Chicago
to take part in community development.
Since 2003, Public Allies has been actively involved with citizens of the Logan Square community.
We have engaged the community on various levels and together determined for the creation of a youth mural project. This project will demonstrate a sense of ownership by the community, as well as cultivate
the talents of such youth.
This year we have much in store for the beautification of the Logan Square community. There have been
numerous meetings with community members, and a great deal has been accomplished. We
have identified a location at Richmond and Bloomingdale along
the Bloomingdale Trail. It is located behind Yates Elementay School. This
has been approved by Alderman Rey Colon. In addition to such project, we have
fundraisers, various upcoming events, and meetings on sustainability of murals by the Logan Square youth and the neighborhood. There
will be a video component documenting the project for the initial mural.
Public Allies, with the support and help from community partners, is encouraging
your participation and involvement within the process. By contributing to this
project you can continue to establish yourself as a vested member within Logan
Square. Any donation would aide considerably in our
endeavors to beautify the community. Please free to post any questions or concerns to
