Logan
Square Youth & Visitors Shine
Since 2003, Public Allies, a national AmeriCorps
program, has been actively involved with citizens of the Logan Square
community. Through team service projects, comprised of diverse young adults,
a community came together and determined for the creation of a youth mural project.
This year, through numerous meetings with community
members, a huge step was taken. On April 8th, at Richmond and Bloomingdale, the first splotches of creativity spilled onto the wall. From there, a work of art by the youth has currently been in progress.
Throughout spring break vacation, youth from Logan Square and guests from other communities such as K-Town,
Little Village, and Humbolt Park
showcased their artistic abilities. Many spent hours expressing their artistic
gifts. Food and drinks donated by Tastee Freez, Hot Spot, and Foodsmart kept
them motivated, while Community TV Network shot video footage, documenting the project for a youth show "Hard Cover," airing
on Can TV channel 19. However, the design is not yet complete.
Public Allies, with the support and help from Logan Square community partners, is encouraging your participation
and involvement within the process. Come out with the youth after 4 pm to help paint the wall, continuing throughout this week and part of the next. By contributing to this project, you can further establish yourself as a vested member within Logan Square. There
will be a closing celebration commending the youth for their hard work.
The mural will be colorful, attractive, and a creative
piece of art that proves dedication to improving and building Logan Square. Participate also in the sustainability of the project upon completion of this wall.
There are more potential sites within Logan
Square that are available.
